Lincoln Launches Weekly Food Waste Recycling Scheme

Lincoln Launches Weekly Food Waste Recycling Scheme

Aug 26, 2025

Caddies, compostable liners and regular collections aim to boost city’s sustainability

Weekly food waste collections are launching in Lincoln, as part of a new county-wide initiative to boost recycling and cut landfill. Every household will receive indoor caddies, compostable liners, and outdoor bins for easy separation and storage.

Dedicated vehicles will collect food waste each week, sending leftovers to a local anaerobic digestion plant where they will be turned into clean biogas and fertiliser for local farms. Local authorities say the service will free up space in general waste bins and benefit the environment, with rollout set to begin in March 2026.

Residents are encouraged to try the scheme, which aims to make Lincoln greener and more sustainable for all.
