Sale of Historic RAF Woodhall Spa Site Paused
Ministry of Defence postpones disposal as council and community discuss future uses for iconic Dambusters base.

The sale of the historic RAF Woodhall Spa site in Lincolnshire has been paused, the Ministry of Defence confirmed today. Local authorities had previously expressed interest in acquiring the land for community uses such as a holiday park, woodland burial site, or industrial redevelopment.
The site, which opened in 1942 and played a significant wartime role supporting the famed Dambusters squadron, has more recently served varied purposes including as an emergency mortuary during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lincolnshire County Council stated it would halt its lease of the site's hangar once the temporary mortuary is dismantled.
The MOD is now reviewing potential future uses for the property, including possible storage and logistical roles. Interested parties will be notified once the MOD reaches a final decision, but for now, plans for redevelopment are on hold pending wider discussions and asset review.
