Residents face property damage as flash flooding hits low-lying area

A brief but intense burst of rain and hailstones submerged a street in Saxilby, Lincolnshire, on September 4, 2025, causing significant flooding in homes and streets. The sudden deluge lasted about 20 minutes, overwhelming drainage systems and forcing emergency services to respond.

One resident reported floodwater entering their house, causing the living room floor to float, prompting a fire service intervention. The affected area lies within the Fossdyke Canal and Tributaries flood warning zone, which covers low-lying regions around Saxilby and Skellingthorpe.

Although no active flood warnings were in place at the time, the event highlights the vulnerability of the area to flash floods during severe weather.

Motorists were also caught in floodwaters across Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, underscoring the widespread impact of the storm system that day.
